I've had quite a few people ask me why I don't Twitter. Apart from the fact that I've never said anything in only 144 characters, here's a sampling of what I might have posted on Thursday.
"Making shea body butter today! I love this stuff!"
"Why does my ear hurt so much? Perhaps I should see a doctor!"
"Iron Maiden is the perfect geek band. And they're awesome!"
"Burned my hand on the steam from the double boiler. Irony! LOL!"
"My dog is watching me emulsify. Do dogs like chemistry?"
"Did I mention Iron Maiden is awesome?"
"Shea body butter turned out awesome! Now for some hand soap!"
And so on, although there'd probably be an unrelated picture or two of my dog to accompany the Tweets. (You don't want to see this weekend's as every line would be, "Hate world. Revenge soon. Take out on everybody." And I'd update it once an hour!)
As you can see there are two reasons I don't Twitter...
1. I can't write anything without using punctuation, capitalization, and full sentences without feeling really uncomfortable. I didn't spend five years and a ton of money on getting an English degree to use numbers in the place of letters or leave out the subject of a sentence! It takes me forever to respond to a text!
2. My life isn't interesting enough to warrant it. Although the life of a cosmetic chemistry blogger might seem exciting, filled with invitations to gala events, fancy dinners, and glittery earrings, it's more about sitting in the slightly chilly workshop listening to my iPod, thinking up new ways of using my ingredients, and wishing I'd looked at my "what I want to make list" before I set the iPod into the stereo. On a normal day, I wake up, make a cup of tea, read and respond to e-mails, write a blog post or go into the workshop and make something, realize I'll be late for work if I don't get going now, forget to eat breakfast, and drive to work listening to the weather report or more Iron Maiden. (I'm a little obsessed with this band right now. Seriously, if you haven't listened to them lately, you really need to download a few albums! They really are the perfect geek band!)
I figure there are Twitterati out there dying to share the details of their lives with you. You really don't need my mundane thoughts cluttering up the Tweet-o-sphere or whatever they call it!
